I piled a quartered onion, grape tomatoes, whole mushrooms in the cast iron pan my mother in law kindly gave me for Christmas. Decided the beef stew meat needed cooking too and put that in. Put the 1lb deer roast from Missy and Jesse on top. Added some leftover mulled red wine. Everything is better with wine and it’s frugal to use leftovers, right?
I then topped THAT with frozen green beans simply because they sounded better than broccoli. Put ground black pepper and ground garlic salt on all that. Put the lid on and it’s in the oven at 350. We shall see. I’m not sure what to call the pan, it’s not a technical dutch oven, but it’s very like. The only thing I forgot to buy was garlic cloves, they would have been great.
Delicious! The deer meat was very tender, still quite strongly flavored. Wish I had the garlic.. Next time!
I sauteed a pound of Arugula in bacon fat, and a couple handfuls of crumbled bacon, salt, pepper, cayenne, onion powder and garlic powder. Set that aside and sauteed the Argentinian shrimp, then the scallops in the fat, added butter, cognac and tarragon. I made a cream sauce out of what was left in the pan after I put the seafood atop the greens. Served with bleu cheese crumbles.
I was making chicken stock ANYWAY so I cut up two carrots about a dozen cherry tomatoes (the last of our harvest, alas), two chicken breasts, about half an onion. Pinch of dried onion, garlic powder, Montreal chicken seasoning. Cube of frozen garlic. Cube of frozen basil. A stick of lemon grass. Smelled about right.
Added a can of mushrooms and Trader Joe’s coconut milk. Scrounged in the back of the
cupboard til I found a can of straw mushrooms. Simmered. Added rice noodles.
We’ll add our own hot sauce since Linnae doesn’t like it.
